Data Exchange Standards - ATSB Release Packages

This page provides access to the current and previous releases of IATA data exchanges standards.

Messaging standards for the Passenger Standards Conference (PSC) are developed under the governance of the Conference and adhere to Resolution 009. They are derived from the Airline Industry Data Model (AIDM) and its associated methodology, defined by the Architecture & Technology Strategy Board (ATSB) who oversees the maintenance of the AIDM. Groups under the ATSB maintain the standards and best practices necessary for consistent and interoperable implementation of data exchange and related technologies across multiple business areas supported by the Conference.

  • Baggage logistics message - Simplification of Technical Domain Messages (TDM) in Baggage Logistics - Maintenance of TDM for future proofing and AIDM compliance on Data Objects. Common data structures for baggage standards are now stored in a separate XML Schema (“common types schema”), referenced from their respective message schemas.

  • Added capability enabling sellers to fully pay for a single OrderItem with multiple payment methods. The improvements are specific to how surcharges are communicated, as these depend on amounts being paid. This is made possible through a new Payment Simulation function, which allows the Seller to communicate intended amounts per Payment Method to the airline, which drives surcharge calculation prior to actual Payment Commitment.

  • Added Commitment as new Form of Payment. This will apply only for the OfferItems or OrderItems that don’t require payment or additional collection.

  • Added capability to communicate information related consumption taxes (VAT, GST, etc.) between stakeholders, enabling airlines to be more compliant with local tax regulation.

  • Enhanced how taxes, fees, and charges are communicated between stakeholders in Offer and Order standards enabling airlines to be more compliant with local tax regulations.

  • Capability for a seller to request flight offers and reshop offers based on specific marketing flight numbers.

  • Minor adjustments and bug fixes made to Baggage Logistics and Ground Ops Load Control messages.

  • The proposed change aims to enable the transmission of Unique Tax References (UTRs) between payers/passengers and airlines to facilitate tax relief claims, fulfilling requirements focusing on South American markets.

  • Improvement of the Implementation Guidance related to 3D-Secure authentication exemptions for corporate payments.

  • Minor technical enhancements on Baggage message schemas.

    • Annotation updates on elements DeliveringBagSegment and OnwardBagSegment for messages BagRQ, BagRS, BagNotifRQ

    • Addition of “ClassOfServiceCode” attribute to following elements: DeliveringBagSegment, OnwardBagSegment, DeliveringULD_Allocation and OnwardULD_Allocation for messages BagRQ, BagRS, BagNotifRQ, ULD_RQ, ULD_RS, ULD_NotifRQ

    • Addition of “Terminal” element next to IATA-location for segment departure/arrival.

    • Addition of “CHG” attribute in BagSegment, CartRide and ULD_Allocation.

  • Publication of new Recommended Practice for Biometric Handling in Contactless Travel. RP 1701o for Contactless Travel, endorsed by the PSC and published in 2023, now includes biometric handling for the day of travel.

  • Ground Operations Automation & Digitalization have made several minor modifications to LoadControl message schemas, largely consisting of changing a selection of mandatory elements to optional.

  • Baggage Logistics and Conformance Event Service v2

    • New set of messages, differentiating processes based on conversation type and baggage item type, supporting the digital transformation of Baggage Operations.

    • A revised Implementation Guide aligned with emerging architecture and technology patterns (link will provided in coming weeks).

  • Slot Clearance RQ - new Change Reason codes

    • New Change Reason code introduced, used to communicate information about specific data line it is attached to in the SlotClearanceRQ message, and used for planning purposes for the clearance of flights at Level 3 airports and the SMA (schedule movement) message used for exchange of data on planned operations at Level 2 airports.

  • Update to the ATSB Codeset Directory

    • “No-show” value moved from Codeset 5387 to 1229

  • Merging of two accounting-related messages (OSIN and OSIADN). Re-synchronization of missing Order-related data elements in the remaining OSIN message.

  • OrderVersion number added in OrderReshopRQ, OrderQuoteRQ and ServiceListRQ, SeatAvailabilityRQ, to be used when triggered from an Order to ensure that the new Offer is based on the latest version of the Order. Support for race conditions.

  • Sequence number for Origin/Dests added to help determine which O&D is outbound and which is inbound, in cases of same-day travel.

  • 5 defects resolved across several EASD messages.

  • Update of annotation for Seat Occupation code “F“.

  • Several major changes related to Offers & Order schemas

Offers & Orders Message Schemas

Distribution-related schemas within the Offers & Orders family of messages (NDC, ONE Order, Settlement with orders…) have undergone several bug fixes during the course of two years, following the release of 21.3 in Sep 2021. The expandable sections below provide the sub-set of patched Offers & Orders messages that have had defects resolved over this period of time.

If you have adopted or are planning to adopt release 21.3, you are encouraged to leverage the 21.3.5 version, as this release compounds all bug fixes carried out until March 2023.

  • Defect EASD 289 - Update ServiceStatusChangeNotifRQ (SSCN) is no longer a lean message 

  • Defect EASD 322 - Align Accounted Order and Ordered Order in OSIN and OSINAD Messages  

  • Defect EASD 323 Add "Price Difference" Capabilities to Internal Values in OSIN and OSINAD Messages

  • Defect EASD-321 for Fix Correction of OSIADN to a Baseline configuration 

  • Defect EASD-333 for Fix Correction of "Owner code" from mandatory to optional at OrderItem Level in OrderRequest element

  • Defect EASD-319 for Fix Correction of Six Digit "IIN” back to shopping and pricing messages

Update Release package as 21.3.1 in Jan 2022 to include a minor patch to remove key/keyrefs which were incorrectly causing some validation issues. The data model has not been changed. The intention is still to maintain the integrity of IDs which will be defined in the implementation guide.
